We're finally feeling the summer heat here in the Upstate of South Carolina. Woohoo! Today was particularly warm and a summer treat was definitely necessary.
Lemonade. That sweet, tangy nectar that we grew up selling at handmade stands during childhood. What a wonderful, yet simple pleasure. I tend to find joy in the little things in life. A tall, cold glass of lemonade with beads of condensation dripping down the sides happens to be one of them. The key to my recipe is using freshly squeezed lemons. I hope you enjoy my take on this sweet summer classic :)
Old Fashioned Lemonade
Ingredients:
- 1 1/8 cup sugar
- 1 cup hot water
- 6 cups cold water
- 1 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 7 juicy lemons)
Directions:
In a saucepan, combine hot water and sugar to make a simple syrup. Let the mixture come to a simmer and then turn of the heat, stirring all the while to dissolve the sugar. In your favorite pitcher combine the cold water, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Stir well and refrigerate. Serve over lots of ice and enjoy!
Have a wonderful day!
